ReadyKids! Summer Program

Summer Program 2021

In the summer of 2021, ReadyKids! partnered with Brownsville and Ebonwood Community Centers to provide one-on-one and small group mentoring to incoming and outgoing kindergartners in June and July. Mentorship during these months is critical to preventing summer slide and boosting kids’ readiness for school in the fall. In total, volunteers provided 234 hours of mentoring to 65 students.

Summer Program 2020

When students lost two months of classroom instructional time due to COVID-19 in the summer of 2020, ReadyKids! wanted to provide a resource for our children and their families. Thus, we launched our very first summer program in 2020 with the goal for children and their families to gain confidence in their readiness for kindergarten in the fall. In 2020, our summer program impacted 127 families in Escambia County. We distributed 154 bags to local families and church groups containing books, activities, and resources.

The foundation for mathematical thinking begins very early in a child’s development. It develops naturally as parents and children talk using real items in every day settings. Throughout the day there are many opportunities to foster mathematical thinking, such as during snack time and at bed time.

Reading with your child is a great way to help them learn letters, hear new words, and bond together. You can read and have a conversation with your child anywhere - at home, in the grocery store, or while taking a walk - simply use your surroundings.
